About Me

My photo
I've been married to my husband, Michael, for almost 25 years. I'm a mom to a biological son and an adopted son from Colombia, and I'm also a spiritual mom to my adopted son's older brother, who I claim as a son in my heart. I'm bilingual and love to work with and relate to Spanish-speaking children and families. I've been a teacher to students from all sorts of backgrounds and cultures for the last 20+ years. I'm also an author and a certified Biblical counselor. I'm in a new empty nest season in a new location far from where I raised my boys, so I'm definitely in a stage of rediscovering myself, my interests, and my purpose.

Just a few pics from Juan David's 18th birthday (though a bit fuzzy)

Mike wanted to get him a bilingual Bible with his name engraved in the front.

He had to search for the verse Matthew 6:33--Seek ye first the kingdom of God and all these things shall be added unto you. (That's where he found the cash he'd asked for.)

Grandma and Grandpa didn't disappoint. He checked the mail all week, looking expectantly for a card from them. :) Actually, that's what he opened first.

Bogota, Colombia--It's where my story begins.

I got him doughnuts, and Mike made him eggs. He was served his plate with a birthday candle. :)

18 things I love about my son

I don't think I could have found a more perfect card.

Plus we both wrote him a personal letter with advice as he now enters adulthood (though, thankfully, he's still in high school for another year after this one).

Then that evening, he played the first game in his soccer tournament and scored a goal! And his coach led the team to sing Happy Birthday to him.

A full day of celebration. I hope it lived up to his expectations.
