Spring Break Adventures Part 1
The cute little cabin we rented for the weekend did not disappoint.
It gave us a quiet, cozy spot to make our own meals both inside and on the grill, sit by a campfire, relax in a hot tub, listen to music while just hanging out and reconnecting till late at night.
It came with visits from two very friendly neighbor dogs.
It was close enough to get up in the morning and go visit Natural Bridge State Resort Park. We hoped to take the sky lift to see the Natural Bridge, but when we saw it was closed, we just picked a trail and started hiking up toward it. Totally unprepared with nothing but a water bottle in our hands and definitely not dressed for the occasion.
It had some very easy parts on the trail, and some not so easy parts (that proved to be much more challenging going back down as they were going up). Some of these rock stairs found me climbing down backwards or just sliding down on my butt!
But the 1.25 mile hike up to the top of the mountain was totally worth the view. We both agreed that it was the best part of the weekend.
This pic is toward the top of the skylift that wasn't open.
I sure do hate tight spaces, so this was not one of my favorite parts.
Pretty crazy to wonder what force broke through that rock and when to create this natural bridge. The flood?? I'm going to have to do my research on the different theories out there.
Then we went driving around exploring unique things in the town. This was an old drive-in theater now converted to a drive-in diner.
And, of course, we had to find a coffee shop.
And we treated ourselves to some well-deserved ice cream after our 3 hour hike.
Then back to our cute little cabin for a second evening.
We woke up to a heavy rain storm that definitely filled that creek right up!
We ended our fun with a stop at Cracker Barrel about half-way home. Mmmm. Those blueberry pancakes were so good!!!!
But now I repeat...
Definitely saving that little cabin as a favorite to return to. So quiet and peaceful. A great place to unwind from an overwhelming school year during a very overwhelming time of the year.
